Pneumococcus is a bacteria that causes invasive diseases in children. Thanks to vaccination the rates of the disease has been lowered.

Complete vaccination consists of 4 shots.
The first shot is routinely given at the 2 months well check up.
The second shot is routinely given at the 4 months well check up.
The third shot is routinely given at the 6 month well check up.
The forth shot is routinely give at the 15 months well check up.

Healthy children who have had all 4 doses of the older pneumococcal 7 vaccine and who have not turned 5 should receive a booster dose of the new pneumococcal 13 vaccine.
