Well Check Information

Developmental Screening

Developmental Screening is an assessment of the developemental status of your child. It is done at each well visit from 2 weeks to 5 years of age. It is a developmental screen based on the Denver 2 Developmental Screening Test.

The ages and stages questionnaire is also given at 2.5 years old.

EPDS (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale)

The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale is a checklist given to mothers at the 2 week, 2, 4, and 6 month well checks for their child, that helps screen for postpartum depression.

Hgb (Hemoglobin)

Hemoglobin is a measure of the oxygen carrying capacity of your blood. We routinely check it with a blood test at the 12 months and the 2 years well check. The blood test is performed by obtaining a drop of blood from a finger poke. For cooperative 2 year olds, we have a finger probe that can check their hemoglobin without a prick. Testing the hemoglobin allows us to monitor for anemia and other signs of blood disorders.

Developmental Screening

FPA uses the Ages and Stages questionairre which is a parent centered developmental screening. It is given at the 9 month and 30 month old well check.

Autism Screening

The autism screening is a checklist of developmental questions given at the 18 months and 2 year well check to screen for developmental disorder such as autism. FPA uses the M-CHAT (The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers).

Vision Screening

A modern spot vision machine allow us to screen vision concerns such as myopia, strabismus, and astigmatism as early as 12 months old and then yearly thereafter. We also offer screen vision using a standard 10 foot vision chart.

Audiometry

A standard hearing test is performed where your child’s response to various tones are tested in an isolated sound room. The test is performed at the 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 & 18 years well check.

PHQ-9

The PHQ-9 is a multipurpose instrument for screening, diagnosing, monitoring and measuring the severity of depression. This screen is given at well checks to all patient age 12 years and up.
